Introduction- What We Are All About

Hi!
My name is Erika Scharwath and music has been a huge part of my life ever since I was little. I grew up listening to it and as soon as I was old enough to be able to take part in it, I started to pick up instruments. I learned how to read and play music in middle school, and by high school I had started my own band and started to write it (both music and lyrics). So it seemed to fit perfectly when I found these other two girls who had shared my passion for music to start this blog with.

My name is Adriana Rivas and music has been a big part of my life. I was always somehow involved with music, whether it was singing in choir or eventually picking up the guitar, bass and piano. I find music to be a release, a way to let my emotions out when I could find no other way. I feel the same when it comes to songwriting, as I find it's easier to express myself in paper than in speech, so naturally the idea came to mind to dive deeper into songwriting and the styles and techniques an artist uses. Music reaches everyone, and I believe each song can relate to us all in some way and I hope our blog will help you make that connection with music as we do, and will maybe intrigue you to experiment with writing as well.

Hello!
My name is Amanda Bonbrisco! I may not be musically talented, but I have a serious love and passion for music! I feel like just about any song conveys a special meaning that can apply to any person’s life. One great aspect of music that I love the most is the fact that it’s for everyone! The artist is able to reach out to any person by the amazing language of lyrics.

As a group, the three of us (Erika Scharwath, Adriana Rivas, and Amanda Bonbrisco) came together to form this blog group called "The Language of Music." Our goal is to help you understand something useful about writing, giving you new ways to think about the different styles lyrics can be writen in. Most people don't give much thought to the lyrics other than singing them, or them having an emotional appeal based on the message, but there is more than that in the way that the authors chose to put the words on the page. Most people don't think about why the author chooses to use certain words instead of others, or the structure of how the song is writen. Have you ever asked yourself why is the chorus repeated so many times in a song while the refrains are always different? Or why a certain tone is used? Is that a styalistic choice of the author to portray a message that others don't see and just look past it?
We will be each be posting different kinds of lyrics from different generas and writers from different backgrounds. We will evaluate each of them individually with these things in mind.
